As a wine region, Murphys is unique in the respect that, arguably, she offers one of the greatest concentrations of wine tasting rooms (24 rooms representing 26 labels, at last count), all of which line the quaint, serene, inimitable and very strollable half mile long Main Street.
There are an additional 9 wineries with tasting rooms all within 1.5 to 5 miles driving distance from the center of town. Indian Rock, Locke and Ironstone, to name just a few, offer serene settings with stunning vistas, beautiful ponds, and impeccable grounds and gardens for picnics, weddings and affairs.
Edible Art
Since wine can best be described as “edible art,” the joy of Murphys wine tasting is greatly accentuated when you are fortunate enough to meet the winemakers, many of whom work day-to-day in their own beautiful boutique tasting rooms, and hear the passion in their voices as they recount their tales of how they create their “art.”
You can enjoy a tasting at many incredible marble-top or storied turn of the century bars or share a bottle with a loved one or friends at one of the many street-side parklets that have become so common on the east end of Main Street.
Quite a few tasting rooms now serve food or offer a wonderful assortment of cheeses to enjoy with your wine and friends, such as Pop the Bubbly, Irish Family Vineyards and Lavender Ridge.

If you’re buying a bottle to enjoy on-the-spot, taking a varied mixed case selection home or signing up for a few wine clubs, be sure to inquire about the best offers and deals so you know you’ll always have your best wine either on-hand or showing up at your door for all of you future special occasions.
Signing up for wine club memberships ensures that your favorite Murphys wine will always be fast approaching. Many of these small wineries don’t have the output and vast distribution outside of being available in their own wine rooms and regional supermarkets in Calaveras County, and sometime slightly beyond. Therefore, their wine clubs, often times, are the foundation of their continued success.

"That music is gorgeous! It totally describes everything I’m tasting in this wine. What’s it called?," he asked.
“La Folia,” his friend replied. “It means 'The madness.'”
